Give UP
Dealing with decision ambiguity
Have you ever been in a situation where you’ve just wanted to give UP?
A job, a relationship, your studies, a friendship, living in South Africa, your faith or life itself? How did you deal with your emotions, questions and perhaps the ambiguity surrounding the issue: “My marriage is too good to leave but too bad to stay.” “I don’t like my job but at least it pays the bills.”
When do we reach our tipping point? When do we decide that we must change the trajectory of our life? When is giving UP the turning point that pulls or pushes us into a better (or worse) future? How much certainty do we need? Have we accounted for the consequences, analysed the pros and cons?
Giving UP seems to have a negative connotation: it can sound and feel like failure or weakness – throwing in the towel! It can be positive too though; giving UP smoking, drinking, cheating, unhealthy eating habits, a toxic relationship or self-sabotaging thinking patterns in anticipation of a future: a healthier and more authentic life.
As your thinking partner and coach, we can dig into your deeper needs and motives to come up with the best way forward and UPward. Whatever you do, you assume the benefit of the decision must outweigh the effort or pain. I invite you to explore what to start, what to consider stopping and what to persevere with so that “giving UP” can become a growth point in your life.
